This picture was after they did surgery to replace his bone flap.  One side of his head was shaved and he was INSISTING that my parents shave the other side so he could have a mohawk (my dad was dead set against it).  So they compromised and took a picture from the shaved side with his hair gelled and spikey--his fake mohawk.
