Well the swallow study went okay, not perfect, but okay. He still is at risk for aspiration when
swallowing so they are not going to start him on food just yet. Instead they are going to begin with eating therapeutic pudding (My mom's reply was "isn't eating pudding always therapeutic?). Then we will reevaluate later.
He walked again in therapy (I haven't had a chance to witness this, but I can't wait!). He also has continued nuero-psychological testing. My mom said he asked her a few of the questions after and she doesn't think she did too well. She said she gave answers but she wasn't sure if they were the answers that they were looking for.
When Sam was at the International Science Fair in Portland, OR he hung out with a lot of the Hawaiian group. They often would chant a traditional Hawaiian chant and Sam soon learned it. He taught (well he tried) it to Bec and I when we were there. Recently we were trying to remember it all and although Sam could get further than any of us, we couldn't remember
it all. Today while flipping through a book I jotted down house measurements in I found the chant in both Bec and my handwriting (we knew better than to count on memory). Sam sang along with me over the phone. I would write it to you but I know I would massacre the spelling.
It is the stories like these that have intertwined the lives of my husband, kids, parents, siblings, niece and brother in law. These ropes you pull that bring out smiles, sounds, music, laughter and memory. These are what brought our Sam back. It is through reliving these days that pull the bond closer between people. Everyday we live in the day, we live in the past and we hope for the future. As Sam spelled to me once at two in the morning, "It is story time."
