Last week was hard.  Sam had an MRI of his head and neck.  First reports from one doctor kind of hit hard, but after hearing from the neurosurgeon, results were as expected except for the good news that there was no shearing injury to the brain.  This is the injury that results from the brain being under force within the skull at the time of impact.  The neurosurgeon ordered the MRI for the pure reason to see how bad his shearing injury was, so the fact that he came back with the news that there was none, was very positive and unexpected.  The docs and we were pleasantly surprised.  The injury to the brain that the MRI showed was what we were already aware of and nothing new.

All I can say is I am so thankful for the strength and motherly/nurse intuition that the Lord is sending through my sister, Sam's mom.  She has been amazing, but it has been so difficult on her and Jim.  I know they don't think so, but they are being so brave for their boy.  Sam appears to have moved his head to command for his mom and dad.  The physiotherapist feels encouraged by some of the things that Sam is accomplishing and his muscle tone.  Sam's condition has been upgraded from "Critical" to "serious".  He is completely off the vent now and maintaining 100% oxygen in his blood.  He is coming back.  He was very oculary alert last night.  The most he has been yet.  Eyes wide open with lots of blinking and focusing.  He will probably be moved to a rehab facility next week, provided his physical condition stays as it is.  Please continue to pray for Sam--Can you tell I love my nephew with all of my heart?  Our lives are all hanging on any crumb of information or progress of Sam.  He is my hero, as are all of you for your undying support.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
