Sam is still in a coma.  He has been physically stable since last Sat.  Friday he had bleeding into lungs and stomach due to his bone marrow being suppressed by the Dilantin he was on for seizure control.  They switched medicines and gave him a lot of blood, and that reversed a very dangerous situation.  There have been so many times we've almost lost him.  He has a corneal reflex now (blinks eyes when eyelashes are touched), he has also moved his thumb and index finger (sign of cerebral cortex activity).  They tried to put his feeding tube in today, but were unable to because they were unable to visualize as well as they wanted.  He did have his trach done this week--up til now he's been too unstable to even try a trach.  The CAT scans have really improved until the one they did yesterday--it showed signs of ischemia in the parietal lobe, (maybe stroke?) though the neurologist did say he didn't think it would affect final outcome (artistic portion of the brain).  Ha!  I think the artistic portion of Sam's brain wasn't in play much to begin with.  I could always tell which artwork was Sam's when he was in school.  Just look for the scribbles and blobs (and not in a cool, modern art sort of way).  We appreciate all of the prayers and are desperate to have them continue.  Pray that our Sam comes back to us.
