Maur visited the crash site today and agreed with Jayne's conclusion. Sam also started having lung trouble today. They wanted to take him to Ann Arbor because they have a machine to help his lungs, but he was too critical.
--Katie Jessop's journal entry
**This was the day that the doctor told us he wouldn't survive and that we should make him a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate). That means that if his heart stops or his lungs fail, the doctors and nurses won't do anything to bring him back. The main problem was that his lungs were very stiff because of being on the ventilator and it was causing his oxygen to drop dangerously low. With this kind of lung condition, you just cannot get enough air. After Dr. Al gave us the news that he wouldn't survive, my mom, Heather and I just went in one of the rooms we were using at the hospital and just went to sleep. We just couldn't face it.
