Please pray for Gail Bosak's son Jon.  He is 19 years old (like Sam) and is also defying odds as he recovers from a brain injury.  Here is an excerpt from her email:

hi rebecca

i have to tell you, this helps alot, talking to someone else, i have been so devasated, my family is very supportive, but i know they are hurting also, and i try to stay positive for them, i agree with you, we are very lucky , if jon would have died that day, i dont know what i would have done, he is my only child, my life. i would say jon was in a coma for about 3 weeks, then he went into the vegetative state, he had his eyes open, but didnt do nothing else until about 3 months later, i just kept talking to him and loving him, then one day, i was talking to him, and i was being goofy, and i burped, (this may sound weird) and he started laughing, it was amazing, then he would laugh everytime somebody would make a bodily noise, of course , then everybody was doing it to make him laugh. then about 2 weeks after that, he said no, so i started saying words and he repeated them, then he started to answer questions, but he is still very confused, they said he would never think again, because the top of his brain was damaged, but he is, they also had to take out a portion of his brain, his cerebum, his motor skills part, so if we can get him to keep progressing in that part, i pray.
he does speak very clearly, and he loves to eat, so that part of his brain is working, but it seems like hes still in a minimal concious state, does that make sense, was sam in a vegetative state after waking up from his coma, or i think they call it an open eye coma, im just trying to figure this all out, because the doctors cant tell us whats next, thanks for the catherter advice, i will ask the doctor about that, because jon had to go to the hospital so many times for that infection, and i cant stand being in the hospitals anymore, people always have to ask what happened , and they stare, it is so hard. i am so happy for you, because it sounds like sam will make a great recovery.
