Sam's lungs continued to be bad for half of today.  He got better after a while.  He's having a lot of trouble because he had pneumonia.  They are finding remnants of it in his lungs still.

Sam had a rough night with his lungs, but he is doing better now.  Today they did a Doppler (ultrasound) of his extremities to see if there are any blood clots.  His lung x-ray looks good.  He is too unstable to go for a cat scan, though.  They've almost got the blood pressure drugs off.  They took the dug for diabetes away.  They took the PI CC line out because they saw little blood clots had formed.  They were afraid it might go to his lungs.  He isn't stable enough to have a test to see if he has more clots.

**This was a very rough weekend.  I don't think any of us really slept--we spent most of the night haunting the hallways of the ICU and staring at Sam's vitals.  One minute he would be doing much better and the next he would be crashing oxygen-wise again.  It was a terrifying time.  Sunday was Liz's birthday (Sam's girlfriend). My mom, sister and I bought her some gifts from the hospital gift shop and sang happy birthday to her in the 6th floor waiting room.  Such a strange and horrible time.
